The first Canton Wine & Cheese festival was a success according to both the festival committee and the festival attendees. Festival organizers estimate that approximately 900 attendees visited the festival. This event was a joint effort between the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce and Rekindle the Spirit.
“We are thrilled about how well the community supported this new festival,” said committee member and President of the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce Jodi Wesneski. “We knew that there were a lot of wine lovers in Canton and the surrounding areas and we are glad that they all came out to eat, drink and enjoy themselves at the beautiful Manley-Bohlayer Farm.”
“This has been a wonderful festival.” said Deb Earle from Mansfield who attended the festival on Saturday. “I especially enjoyed getting to try all of the different varieties of wines.”
The festival featured seven Pennsylvania wineries as well as food and crafts from 20 additional vendors. In addition to wine tastings, food and crafts, the festival included live entertainment, a wine accessory basket raffle and tours of the Hoagland One Room Schoolhouse. Festival goers enjoyed performances throughout the day by the Alphonse Ciaccio Jazz Trio, the Wyalusing Swing Choir, Ike Bowers and Brandon Wesneski. The wine accessory baskets, which included gift certificates to local restaurants, were won by Connie Kern and Peggy Guzik.
“We would like to thank all of the volunteers and sponsors who made this event possible. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the wineries and vendors without whom we could have never held this great event,” said organizer Marcie Shinn. “And of course, we would like to thank all of the community members who attended. We hope that we see you all again for the festival in 2011!”
The Second Annual Canton Wine & Cheese Festival is tentatively scheduled for June 25, 2011. Anyone interested in participating as a volunteer or vendor should contact the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce at email@example.com.
