Music in the Mountains Sets Annual Concert

Music in the Mountains PA will present their annual concert at the David DeWire Center in Eagles Mere on Saturday, August 14 at 8 p.m. Founded in 1976, the students, ages 13-20, participate in an intensive two week workshop coached by Philadelphia Trio members Barbara Sonies, violin; Deborah Reeder, cello; and Elizabeth Keller, piano. They are assisted by Lori Simpson, viola, and Kaveh Saidi, theory.

On Sunday, August 8, all the students will have played in all of the Eagles Mere churches; they will have learned two different programs of music during the two week session, in addition to daily theory classes.

They of course take full advantage of Eagles Mere and environs’ activities. Participants this year are: violins – Sylvia Biscoveanu, Philip Carter, Gabriel and Samuel Kalcheim, Yuju Park, and Christine Yang; violas – Joe Kauffman (intern), Erica Shartle, and Christopher Smith; celli – Stephen Allen, Kevin Bjerre, Jeffrey Han, and Catherine Yu; pianos – Sarah Kim and Kevin Zhang.

Students this year are from Delaware, New York, and Ohio, in addition to the greater Philadelphia area, and a number of them also participated in previous sessions.

Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call 570-525-3248 or email philtrio@aol.com.
