The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their 30th annual Fall Festival, Lumberjack, and Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving Competition on Oct. 9 and 10 (Columbus Day weekend). It will be held at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds located along Route 154 in Forksville, Pa. The festival will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, rain or shine. There is an admission charge of $5.00 per adult, with children 12-years and under free when accompanied by an adult.
The festival will feature something to interest every member of the family. For Mom, there will be a juried craft show and sale with a wide variety of items to choose from created by talented craftspeople. Also, there will be a quilt show and sale with many beautiful quilts to look at or purchase. Every year the festival features a quilt block contest with entries received from many parts of the United States. The blocks are then made into a “one of a kind” quilts which will be raffled off with the proceeds going to the Sullivan County Scholarship Fund.
For the younger set, we have a variety of children’s activities such as painting faces on pumpkins and many other activities to keep them entertained.
Let’s not forget Dad. Saturday will have all kinds of woodsmen’s activities going on. Starting at approximately 9 a.m., the competition will feature the Log Roll, Crosscut, Jack and Jill Crosscut, One Man Bucking, Spring Board Chop, Hot Saw and Axe Throw. Sunday, at approximately noon, the Chainsaw Obstacle Course will be held.
The Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving demonstrations and competitions bring another exciting element to the varied events at the festival. The carvers begin with a master log (approximately 8 feet tall and 18 inches across). Carvers from different states compete for cash prizes. The competition takes place both days with the completed projects judged on Sunday at 4 p.m.
On Saturday at about 2 p.m., and Sunday at about 1:30 p.m., three foot carvings produced in 45-minutes are auctioned to the public. Your bid will be greatly appreciated and you will take home a “one of a kind” carving.
Also, featured will be an Art Expo, an art / photography / sculpture show and sale, sponsored by the Sullivan County Council on the Arts. Local artists and those from surrounding areas will display their masterpieces for everyone to enjoy. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded.
Look toward the outdoor stage and you will see and hear the music and singing of “Covert Action” on Saturday and “Michelle Stas & Zac Zelewicz” on Sunday throughout the day.
Let’s not forget all the variety of food vendors selling their tasty wares as you walk around the fairgrounds enjoying yourself with the wonderful atmosphere of many interesting activities.
