October is here and so is national Pizza. Did you know that Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, or about 350 slices per second? The celebration of National Pizza month dates back to 1987.
The most popular cheese on pizza is mozzarella. Legend is that Cleopatra fell in love and spent many hours cruising the Nile on the barges pulled by water buffalo, eating many meals of cheese made from the milk of water buffalo. Anthony became such a lover of the cheese he sent water buffalo back to Rome as a gift to Caesar with instructions on how to make the milk into mozzarella cheese. Today, most fresh mozzarella comes from dairy cows.
So as timeless as Cleopatra’s and Anthony’s love is, so is the love that Americans have for pizza. Enjoy a slice of healthy and good for you pizza during National Pizza month!
