Individuals who are interested in becoming transportation equipment operators (TEOs) or clerks with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) this winter are encouraged to apply for temporary positions lasting from September through to early April, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford / Sullivan / Susquehanna) said.
“These positions supplement PennDOT’s permanent workforce and to be a source of additional personnel in the event of inclement weather,” Pickett said.
The hourly pay rate for transportation equipment operators is $13.67. Most operators are hired temporary full-time during the winter months to assist with snow removal. Some are hired on an as-needed basis.
Requirements for TEOs positions include, possession of a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the air brake restriction lifted and six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of between 17,000 and 32,000 pounds. Selected candidates will need to successfully complete a two-week standard, temporary certification program for truck and loader.
