This summer, the Tioga State Forest would like to offer residents and visitors the opportunity to participate in a free, guided public tour of State Forest land in Tioga County. The tour will be held on Saturday, July 22, and will highlight projects of environmental interest such as: emerald ash borer, prescribed fire, vernal pond conservation, stream improvement, recreational facilities, sustainable forest management, historical landmarks, wildlife habitat enhancement and a tour of the U.S.G.S Northern Appalachian Research Laboratory at Asaph.
Transportation, lunch and water will be provided free, complements of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry, Tioga State Forest and the Tioga County Woodland Owners Association.
The tour will start promptly at 9 a.m. at the Tioga State Forest office located at One Nessmuk Lane, Wellsboro, Pa., one mile south of Wellsboro on State Route 287. Parking is available below the forestry office building behind the helicopter pad along Nessmuk Lane.
In order to plan the event, the organizers are asking that each participant return an R.S.V.P. by contacting the Tioga State Forest by phone at (570) 724-2868 or emailing the district office at email@example.com. Please respond with your R.S.V.P. as soon as possible but no later than 4 p.m. on May 19.
This event will be held rain or shine. Please remember to dress appropriately for an outing in the forest. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring your own rain gear.
