On Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m., the Troy Town Band will take the stage at the Troy Area High School Memorial Auditorium to present their Winter Concert. The band will be under the direction of Mr. Larry Gehring, and has a great line up of music planned. Mark your calendar now; the community concerts are always free and the public is cordially invited.
Larry Gehring is a 1973 graduate of West Chester University. That same year he moved to Northeast Pennsylvania and become the band director at the Northeast Bradford Junior Senior High School. Larry would later become the choral director there.
Since the late 70’s, he has been affiliated with the Wyalusing Adult band, starting as a player under the founding director Kevin Downs and later moving into the position of director. He currently shares the director duties with Bob Shumway. Larry has been a long-time member of the clarinet section with the Troy Town Band and the band is pleased to have him conduct the winter concert.
The Troy Town Band features local musicians (adults, students, professionals and amateurs) who present several concerts for the community throughout the year. If you play an instrument, you are invited to join the band at rehearsals on Monday, Jan. 8; and Wednesday, Jan. 10; Monday, Jan. 15; and Wednesday Jan. 17. Rehearsals are held in the band room at the Troy Area High School Commons Building from 7 to 9 p.m.
The program for the Jan. 18 concert includes St. Louis Blues, In the Bleak Mid-Winter and Grand American Fantasia. Please mark your calendar now and plan to enjoy a great evening of band music.
