The second annual Austen Afternoon at the Azilum will be held May 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at the French Azilum.
Building on the success of the first Austen event last year, the 2018 event will begin with a curated tour of the LaPorte House featuring a special exhibit of period clothing, and a special display of corsetry from 1773-1917.
A demonstration of English Country Dancing – something Jane Austen dearly loved – will follow in the pavilion, with live music. Guests for the afternoon will have an opportunity to try a few dances with the Binghamton English Country Dancers as well.
Following a brief discussion about how Austen highlights and uses dance in her books, and how these dances and balls are filmed for the movies, guests will return to the LaPorte House for a sumptuous three course tea, which will conclude the afternoon.
This is a ticketed event and reservations are a must. Please contact the event coordinator, Deborah, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (570) 996-7534 and leave a message when prompted.
Donation for the Austen Afternoon is $25.
