Basket and Wheat Weaving Workshops coming to Canton

JoAnn Kelly Gabos will be coming to the Manley Bohlayer Farm in Canton, Pa. on June 2 and 3 to teach a basket class and a wheat weaving class.

JoAnn has been teaching basketry both in the United States and internationally for 30 years. Her baskets have been displayed at the White House and in the Smithsonian Museum.

The basket class will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. JoAnn will be teaching her “Country Cathead” basket. This basket will be made from ash and maple woods and woven over a wooden form.

No experience is necessary. JoAnn has taught beginners, and guarantees you will finish a basket you will be proud of.

The cost of the class is $55.

On Sunday, June 3, JoAnn will be teaching the craft of wheat weaving. Wheat weaving is a craft as old as growing wheat – when ornate figures, made of plaited wheat, were believed to hold the spirit of the harvest until the next planting. Today, the wheat weavings are a beautiful decoration for your home.

This class will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will allow guests to make three or four weavings. The cost of the class is $35.

There is a special price for both classes of $75. The classes are limited to 12 participants.

To reserve a seat, please contact Jane Holcomb at (214) 284-6200.

Rekindle the Spirit would like to thank the United Way of Bradford County for their sponsorship of these workshops.
