Police Briefs for the week of June 3, 2018

Scattering rubbish – Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda are investigating a May 8 incident in which tires were dumped on a Decker Road Property in Ridgebury Township.

Drug paraphernalia – A Towanda woman faces the misdemeanor charges of intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered and use/possession of drug paraphernalia following a May 2 incident in Standing Stone Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda, 27-year-old Shawnnah Marie Lynn Card was found to be in possession of multiple hypodermic needles and methamphetamine.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton.

Public drunkenness – A Wyalusing man was charged following a May 20 public drunkenness incident on Bridge Street in Wyalusing.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda, the 31-year-old man, who was not identified, had caused a hazard to himself and the public.

Charges were filed in District Court 42-3-04.

Vehicle theft – A man faces charges related to a vehicle theft along Battle Creek Road in Rome Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda, 21-year-old Thomas John Gann took a 2003 Jeep Liberty that was parked at the victim’s farm during the early morning hours of April 20. After taking the Jeep for a joy ride and crashing it, Gann returned to the farm and took a New Holland tractor, which he used to try to drag the Jeep back to the farm. Gann was unsuccessful, and left the Jeep along North Rome Road.

Police said Gann was arrested and released on $45,000 bail.

Drug possession – A Monroeton man was arrested after Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report of a man jumping out in front of cars on May 19 in the area of 442 Woodside Drive in Monroe Township.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Dustin David Johnson was stopped while walking away from paramedics, and police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. After troopers took him back to the Towanda barracks, a second pat down uncovered a small plastic bag with K2 inside.

Johnson was charged with misdemeanor intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered and summary public drunkenness and similar misconduct. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr and sent to the Bradford County Correctional Facility on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for today.

DUI Sayre Borough Police have charged Rodney M. Vangalder, 26, of Wellsburg, N.Y., with driving under the influence following a traffic stop that was initiated at 12:36 a.m. on May 27 on Spring Street in Sayre Borough.

According to police, a traffic stop was initiated on Vangalder’s 2006 Chevrolet Silverado as he was driving without his headlights on. Upon making contact with Vangalder, police were able to detect the odor of an intoxicating beverage. He admitted that he had been drinking prior to driving. He performed a battery of standardized field sobriety tests where he showed signs of impairment. Vangalder refused to submit to a chemical blood test.

He is slated to appear before Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr on June 29 for his preliminary hearing, court documents show.
