Recycling: Towanda Elks is accepting cans and bottles for recycling. The drop off spot is in the barbecue pit.

You Too Animal Rescue, now located behind the Towanda Creek Animal Hospital, is open to the public for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. For adoptions by appointment, call (570) 721-0605.

Riverfest in Towanda is planned for Thursday through Saturday, on the Merrill Parkway along the banks of the Susquehanna River. No admission fee. Rides, entertainment, crafts, food, games, 5K, contests and fireworks at 9 p.m. on Saturday. 


The Sayre Christian Church will host a Christian music festival, “Summerfest to Impact Hunger,” from 1 to 7 p.m. on the lawn of the church at 427 S. Keystone Ave., Sayre. There is no admission. Endless Mountains Quilt Guild biennial quilt show will be held Sept. 29 and 30. Hundreds of quilts will be on display at the Lynch-Bustin Elementary School. 


Second Annual GTP 5K for the United Way, Larnard-Hornbrook County Park on Hornbrook Road, just off of Sheshequin Road in Sheshequin Township. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m. The event will also include a free fun run for kids with a superhero theme. Companies are welcome to put together teams for this event.
