Troy Fair flood fundraiser taking place January 19 in Troy

Remember the last week of July 2018, which is always slated to be the best week of the summer because it’s Troy Fair week in Bradford County. Well, this past July Mother Nature had other plans for the Troy Fair. Over 11-inches of rain fell on already saturated ground during the first three days, causing major flooding.

Monday and Tuesday’s flooding caused the Truck and Tractor pulls to be cancelled. Wednesday morning the water reached its highest level and the rides had to be pulled from the fairgrounds and the stage for the concert was unable to be set on the mud logged ground, which caused the concert to also be cancelled.

It was disheartening to watch a year’s worth of planning and excitement for fair week being cancelled because of rain that just wouldn’t stop. After the rain finally stopped, the fair continued for the remainder of the week, but without the carnival rides or games.

All of the flood damage and financial loss from cancelled events has prompted the need for an additional fundraiser for the Troy Fair. A committee has been organizing a reverse raffle to be held at Alparon Park (Troy Fairgrounds) in Exhibit Hall 2 on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. This promises to be a super fun Saturday night in January.

What’s a Reverse Raffle? Unlike a traditional raffle the last number called is the winner of the grand prize of $2,000; 2nd to last is $500; and 3rd is $200.

Throughout the evening numbers are pulled with every 10th ticket pulled winning either $100 cash or prizes, all of which have been donated from local businesses.

There will be a few chances throughout the evening to buy tickets to try to get back into the raffle, if you’re unlucky and get pulled early. Throughout the evening there will be other chances to win on the cash wheel and 50/50 drawings.

Tickets sell for $100 and include so much more than just the raffle number. The raffle ticket also includes a catered dinner of chicken and beef with sides by In His Service Catering for the ticket holder and a guest. Beer, soda, and water generously donated by Flynn’s Beverage of Wysox, wines from local wineries, music provided by Dirt Road Entertainment from Mansfield, and all of the fun as anticipation builds to see whom the winner will be.

Tickets can be purchased by stopping at the fairgrounds office Tuesday or Thursday, by call (570) 297-3648, or by emailing or see a Troy Fair Director.

Businesses and community members may also sponsor the Troy Fair; call or e-mail for additional information. The Troy Fair appreciates the support!
