The Troy Town Band will present their Winter Concert at the Troy Area High School Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The band will be under the direction of Robert Oldroyd. The program includes American marches, Christmas music and music about the cold / eventide.
The Band features local musicians (adults, students, professionals and amateurs) who present several concerts for the community throughout the year. The community concerts are always free and the public is cordially invited.
Oldroyd is a native of Troy, Pa. He graduated from the Ithaca College (IC) School of Music, summa cum laude, with a degree in Music Education and Horn Performance. Oldroyd actively participated in many performance ensembles at the college and was the founding conductor of the IC Harmoniemusik and the IC Sightreading Band.
From 2008 to 2014, Oldroyd acted as the founding conductor of the Troy Town Band and its ensembles, conducting over twenty-five concerts. He now serves as the Committee Chairman and Conductor of the Endless Mountain Choral Society. Oldroyd performs frequently with professional bands and orchestras in Pennsylvania and Central New York and at music festivals all over the U.S. For five years, Oldroyd was the High School Band Director at Dryden Central School District.
Oldroyd currently serves as the organist and music director of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, Pa.
