January is National Thank You Month, the perfect opportunity to show your gratitude to those who have touched your life. As children we are taught the importance of saying “thank you”, but as adults we have grown accustomed to email, text and occasionally a phone call. But nothing leaves a more lasting impression than a handwritten note conveying heartfelt thanks. That is because a handwritten note is a tangible expression of your appreciation for receiving a gift or invitation.

Tips on how to write the perfect thank you note include, keep it short and simple; write it by hand; start with a salutation; express your gratitude; mention how you will use the gift and how much their kindness means to you; and send it promptly.

Bradford Tioga Head Start (BTHS) staff recognizes that they have many things to be thankful for. As a reminder, in January, information will be shared with staff regarding “Thank You” month and how to incorporate the concept into a lesson. They will be given a “Thank You” book to read to the children and then will be asked to capture the class’s “thank you moment” in a photo that will be placed on the BTHS website in recognition of National Thank You month. Copies of the book will also be given to each enrolled child to take home.

So remember to be thankful; don’t focus on the difficulties or on the things that are not going right. Try not to lose sight of the things that are going well and the blessings received. Because January is the fresh start to a new year, let’s kick it off by being truly thankful.

The following are some great ways to hold your own “Thank You” month celebration.

Make a list of all that you are thankful for in your work and personal life. Be specific. True blessings are the things in your life that resonate importance and touch your core.

Know that being thankful can put you in a better mood. Look at that list when you are feeling down and use it to pick up your spirits and keep you moving forward.

Know that when we are thankful, we radiate this to the people around us and we impact them in a positive way.

Hang out with people who are truly thankful. It is contagious. You know who these people are immediately. They are energetic and have a certain spark to them. They laugh a lot and have a can-do attitude. They are willing to try new things. If you ask them what they’re thankful for, they would be able to list off many. When you visit with this person you feel energized, inspired, and thankful to know them.

Life is never perfect and there are always more mountains to climb. But remember what you have achieved and never forget the blessings that you have received along the way.
