“It’s been amazing!” said Nancy Grimm. “This was a dream I always wanted to do!”
Grimm was talking about the past year when she started her store, selling antiques, collectibles, handcrafted items and used treasures.
She had been buying and selling on Facebook, and then realized that she could have her own little store. She found a place in Ulster on Route 220 and started to fill it.
“Oh, boy! Did we fill it!” said Grimm.
On Feb. 17, 2018 she opened Grimm Used Treasures, which is open only on the weekends since Grimm works full time elsewhere.
Grimm finds her treasures at yard sales, end of estate sales, from individuals and on Facebook Market Place. She has a variety of items including small furniture, dishware collectibles, tools and so much more. The handmade items in her store are from local artisans, including a quilter. Grimm has arranged all of these treasures neatly in three rooms to accommodate every type of shopper. She even has two chairs set up especially for those husbands who would rather sit and wait for their wives to poke around and dig for treasures.
“I’ve got a great bunch of friends helping me,” said Grimm. “And I have amazing customers here, who have become friends.”
People have come from as far away as Long Island, New York to visit her store.
Grimm, with her welcoming manner and warm smile, engages her visitors in interesting conversations about where they’re from, the things that interest them and the ironies of how small our world really is.
She remembers three ladies – a grandma, her daughter and her granddaughter – who came from Williamsport. They told her they had heard how wonderful her store was and that they just had to come to see it. They had a great time in the store, and got a bonus on the way, stopping at the Milky Way and the Barnstead Store in the Troy area. They hadn’t been to either of those places before and enjoyed their uniqueness as well.
Grimm is very appreciative of the support of her customers and all of the friends who have helped her during her first year in business. She is having a special one-year celebration the weekend of Feb. 9 and 10. It will take place during her normal store hours – Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. She has ample parking on the south side of the store. For more information you can find her on Facebook at Grimm Used Treasures.
Getting ready for the celebration, Grimm is adding a coffee bar with snacks. She will also have door prizes that weekend. She is doing a makeover at the store. Those who have been there before will be pleasantly surprised with great new treasures along with the old.
“I want to thank everyone who has made my first year the success that it was,” said Nancy Grimm. “And I look forward to welcoming old and new visitors during 2019.”
