On March 8, 2019, 13 archers from Troy High School traveled to Penn State University for the NASP State Tournament. For several years, Troy High School has been teaching the National Archery in the School Program curriculum in their physical education classes. They have collaborated with Mt. Pisgah State Park’s Derek Parks and Troy Sale Barn’s Nicole Harris to aid in reaching all students grades seven through 12 at Troy Jr. Sr. High School.

Big thank you to the team’s sponsor, Up in Arms Shoot of East Smithfield, for the T-shirts and equipment needs. Also, Derek Parks from Mt. Pisgah State Park for donating his time to help them practice and prepare their bows. Provided photo.

This fall the PE staff decided to take their instruction to the next level by forming an archery team. This opportunity was open to students in grades nine through 12. As a team, they learned a great deal at the state shoot. There were an impressive 95 shooting lanes, nearly 1,000 student archers from 50 Pennsylvania schools, which equals over 9,000 arrows an hour, at the State Shoot.
