Mission Control to all readers, science lovers, space fans, and history buffs! Summer Reading 2019 is just around the corner and this year the Library System of Bradford County has something extraterrestrial planned. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, they are celebrating a Universe of Stories.

It all takes off at our first ever system-wide Launch Party and Fly-in Breakfast planned for Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bradford County Airport. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Pick up your Passport to the Solar System and program upon entry, then collect stickers as you fly through the spacious hangar where you will experience activities and games representing each of the planets from nine independent libraries and the bookmobile.

You’ll also be treated to an out of this world breakfast followed by a presentation from retired NASA Engineer Tim Potter, listen to live music from The Dank Hope Project, pose for pictures with one of many galaxy-inspired backgrounds, and so much more!

After the launch, check out the calendar in your program to start planning your mission through the stars. View the itinerary at your local space station (library) or pick and choose from among them all. They’ve teamed up with Kopernik Observatory and Science Center, Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum, and ScienceTellers to present four space themed, STEM focused programs docking for a limited at each of the area’s nine libraries.

But that’s not all. Each library will be hosting their unique spin on planetary fun throughout the summer with themed story times and programs. This year they are also introducing ReadSquared, an interactive online program that allows you to track your reading and events attended, earn prizes, play games, and create your own custom avatar.

So don your spacesuit, lace up those moonboots, and blast off on a voyage through the galaxy this summer with the Library System of Bradford County.
