From June 12 to 14, the Troy FFA traveled to State College to participate in state competitions. Eighteen students from Troy participated to test their knowledge on a multitude of agricultural topics ranging from agronomy to veterinary science against other FFA members from all around Pennsylvania. Students and advisors also went to three general sessions where the 2017-18 State Officer Team and special guests gave motivational speeches and announced accomplishments of FFA members and chapters from throughout the year.
At the last session, students found out if they placed high individually and if their team would be going the National FFA Convention for placing first in their event. Troy FFA found out that they had multiple individuals and two teams that placed at the state level of competition.
The Troy agronomy team, consisting of Dawn Zimmerman, Madisyn Baxter, Alex Morgan and Carl Kingsley, and the dairy evaluation team, made up by Hannah Houseknecht, Kendal Jenkins, Tiffany Hart and Hope Houseknecht, both placed first as teams and later this year will be making a trip to Indianapolis to compete for Pennsylvania at the National FFA Convention against other top placing teams from all over the country.
They also had two individuals get recognized for placing in the top three in their competition, individually; Kendal Jenkins, who placed first, and Hannah Houseknecht, who placed third, both in dairy cattle evaluation, received plaques for their achievements.
