Protecting the children served and keeping them safe is the number one priority for Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. (BTHS). Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 23-29, 2019) is just one more way the program brings safety awareness to children and families. Throughout the weeklong event, BTHS will be providing information to families to ensure that all children are properly secured in either an appropriate car seat or seatbelt.
Every day, millions of parents and caregivers travel to work, school and after-school activities with their children. While many of those children are riding in correctly installed car seats for the age and size, many are not. Child Passenger Safety Awareness week strives to educate parents and caregivers that a child’s age, weight and height all play a factor in determining the correct type of car seat or restraint.
Over the past few years, with the implementation of stricter seat belt laws, injuries and deaths caused by improperly installed car seats, car seats not suitable for the age / size of the child, or the lack of use of a car seat or seatbelt, injuries and deaths have declined. There is still more work to be done to keep all children safe on the roadways.
Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. is committed to educating parents and caregivers about the best ways to keep kids safe while traveling in vehicles – no matter the length of the trip! Parents do many things for their children; adding car seat safety to that list is essential to a child’s well being.
During Child Passenger Safety week, car safety checks will be held all across the country. Bradford-Tioga Head Start, Inc. encourages all parents and caregivers to take advantage of this free service to ensure that their child is in the right car seat for their age, weight and height and that the seat is properly installed.
