The crisp autumn air and colorful leaves is the perfect backdrop for fall events and activities happening in October, and the Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau is encouraging everyone to get out and appreciate as much of it as possible.
“The Endless Mountains region is bursting with fun things to do”, said the Executive Director of the Visitors Bureau, Jean Ruhf, adding, “We want everyone to enjoy the festivities with family and friends, while taking in all the smells and colorful sights this time of year has to offer.”
And whether those events are filled with pumpkins, apples, and campfires, or art, music, and spooky encounters – there’s guaranteed to be something going on that will spark the curiosity in everyone.
For instance, there’s the Tunkhannock Rotary’s Harvest and Wine Festival, held Oct. 12 at Lazybrook Park. This popular gathering will not only have local wines for the tasting, but also great live entertainment, food galore, seasonal vendors, and plenty of attractions to fill the day.
Elk Mountain Ski Resort in Union Dale, puts away the skis this time of year, but keeps the ski lift running during its Oct. 12-13 fall festival, giving fest-goers a chance to view the magnificent fall foliage of the mountains that surround the resort – from the top of the slopes all the way to the bottom. There will also be festive food and drink, as well as arts and crafts exhibits and sales.
And make sure to mark the calendar for Oct. 12-13; that’s when the Sullivan County Fall Festival Lumberjack / Chainsaw Carving Competition takes place in Forksville. This one-of-a-kind festival has everything from pumpkins, crafts, and an art expo, to quilts, entertainment, food, and fun.
There are many other great events to consider exploring, including Bi-Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Oct. 12 in Eagles Mere; Artists Open House Weekend, Oct. 12-14, throughout Susquehanna County; and the Endless Mountains HalloWINEfest, Oct. 26 in Meshoppen.
