Abiezer and Hannah Field Reunion postponed

Due to the Corona Virus (Covid-19) and concern for the safety of family members, the Field Reunion Committee has decided to not hold the formal Abiezer and Hannah Field Reunion, planned for July 26, 2020. The Covert Church has not yet reopened, so they will have no church service and no dish-to-pass picnic.

Informally, however, Woodburn will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If anyone would like to stop by for an informal visit, Abby Werlock will be at Woodburn with beverages, the traditional ham, and the Field Reunion attendance book for you to sign. Call her at (570) 549-2104 with any questions.

Pictured, is Oliver Dutton Field’s gravesite and headstone. Oliver was part of PA Cavalry Company C. He was the Minister of Wesleyan Methodist Church, about 1861. Provided.

In a press release, a committee representative wrote, “In this informal way, we can say we still want to celebrate the Field Legacy.”

Of note during this pandemic, Abby Bradley Holmes, a granddaughter of George Field, died of the flu in 1918 during the Spanish Influenza epidemic; she was only 42 years old. Abby Holmes Potter, her niece, and Abby Holmes Potter Werlock, her great-niece, were both named for Abby Holmes.

They are currently taking donations for the repair of Oliver Dutton Field’s headstone. Please send contributions to Barbara Andrus, 2510 Farmers Valley Rd., Troy, Pa. 1694. Address checks to Abiezer Field Reunion and write O.D. Field Headstone on memo line.
