David Schucker of the Troy Lions Club was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award on June 18, 2020. The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award is named for the founder of Lions International and is the highest form of recognition a member can receive. It embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
The recipient of this award becomes a model because of the exemplary service to his club and the community for which he serves. The Lions are proud to have had 25 members receive this award, with David making 26.
David has been a Troy Lions Club member for 41 years. During that time, he has served as chairman or co-chairman for the Lions Golf Tournament, Lions Raffle and Lions Bingo. He and Rich Carlonas painted the Troy Pool Building. He helped restore the Columbia Cross Roads Basketball Court. He has participated in the Lions Minstrel show through the years.
Also in the community he has been on the Glenwood Cemetery Board, Troy School Foundation Board, active in the Cross Roads Methodist Church, a Corey Creek Golf Board Member, Troy Vets Club Member, and coached little league, youth soccer and youth basketball.
He and his wife, Pat, have been very supportive of attending fundraisers for various other civic organizations. He has been an all-around community leader. His son, Travis, and daughter, Tracy, are also very active members of the Troy Lions Club.
In a press release, the club wrote, “We at the Troy Lions club are very proud to have him as a member. He has definitely earned this award.”
