The Heritage Garden Club met on July 13 at Alparon Park with 12 members in attendance. President Charlotte Lyon opened the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved with no corrections. Vivian Hall gave the Treasurer’s report and Membership Chair Sharon Brown reported that membership remains at 15 members.

Kate Walters and her mother, Peggy Walters, brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Kate’s garden, which was enjoyed by all.

Due to the pandemic, the club has cancelled plans to host the District V Annual meeting at the Genetti Hotel. They have also postponed the club’s 25th Anniversary celebration until the spring.

Barb Andrus, Vivian Hall, and Judy Warn attended the District V board meeting on July 20 in Mifflinburg. It was a zoom meeting to accommodate members of the board who could not attend in person. District Director Barb Andrus led a discussion on whether the club should have an Annual District Meeting via zoom. The board decided to in favor but there will not be a speaker. Sharon Brown, former president of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, will do the installation of new officers. It will be video taped and played during the zoom meeting.

Charlotte Lyon encouraged members to dig up any perennials they would like from the Hill Garden at Alparon Park, which is no longer in use.

Although many meetings have been cancelled due to the pandemic, the club continues to stay busy maintaining the gardens and watering the containers and baskets in Troy.

Congratulations go out to Barb Andrus who recently completed the Gardening Study School Course III via zoom. She has now completed all four courses and has become a Gardening Consultant.

The next meeting of the club will be held on Aug. 3, 2020 at Mt. Pisgah State Park at 7 p.m. A program will be presented by Lee Dillon, park manager, about plants and the happenings at the park. A volunteer will assist him. Guests are asked to wear a mask.

New members are always welcome. For more information about becoming a member, call Charlotte Lyon at (570) 297-4269. The Heritage Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
