Bradford County 4-H Holds Annual County Horse Show
In 2010, nine 4-H clubs enrolled over 80 4-H horse and horseless members from Wyalusing, Towanda, Troy, Ulster, and Sayre. These 4-Hers enjoyed clinics, picnics, educational meetings, Christmas parties, community service projects, club shows, and much more within their 4-H clubs.
In Bradford County, 4-Hers had the opportunity to participate in several county-wide activities as well. Some of these included horse clinics and workshops, a practice and fun show, open show, horse bowl contests, judging and skillathon contests, horsemanship skills training, trail rides, camp, presentation contests and of course county roundup.
During the Bradford County 4-H Horse Show on August 7 at Alparon Park in Troy, 56 members competed in showmanship, equitation, pleasure, jumping, driving, western riding, reining, trail, pleasure pairs, and timed events. A therapeutic riding division for riders with disabilities is also included. 4-Hers who placed 1st through 4th in each class have a chance to compete at the district level against 4-Hers from Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wyoming Counties in hopes of qualifying to compete at the State 4-H Horse Show in Harrisburg. Seven 4-Hers will be awarded a “High Point Horse Award” for the highest combined score based on their placing in each of the classes they participated in during the County Horse Show: Adrielle Blemle – Sr. Western; Olivia Noone – Jr. Western; Cassie Hamilton- Sr. English; Kari Ammerman – Jr. English; Tricia Hojnowski – Pony Gaming; Tiffany Belcher – Horse Gaming; and Mason Weed – Driving.
There are over 6,000 4-H horse projects involving youth throughout Pennsylvania. Programs that are designed to develop life skills in youth and knowledge of horse production, use, and management.
