Two state grants will benefit area recreational projects in Bradford and Sullivan counties, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) announced recently. "I applaud all of the recipients of this grant, as this program is highly competitive and the funding is very desirable, especially in this challenging economy," Pickett said. "As we know so well, the Northern Tier represents some of the best recreational and tourism attractions along the East Coast, and I am pleased the state's investment in these projects will help make way for additional tourism opportunities." In Bradford County, the Endless Mountains Heritage Region will receive $62,500 to provide technical assistance in the development of Open Space Greenways and outdoor recreation plans for Wyoming, Sullivan and Susquehanna counties. The grant will also assist organizations with capacity-building, strategic needs assessment, project planning and management, as well as coordinating the redesign and publication of an enhanced regional Heritage Trail Guide and developing water trail pod casts for the Upper North Branch of the Susquehanna River. In addition, $20,000 will be directed to the Sullivan County Recreational Association to determine the feasibility of developing a Sullivan County multi-purpose and recreational facility. The grants are part of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, overseen by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Specifically, the grants provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofit organizations for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects.
